Disposable Shippers

Disposable shipping containers are available. These containers are styrofoam boxes with coolant packs and a variety of semen storage devices. Each shipping container uses a different semen storage system. The Equitainer uses either the Whirlpak bags or 50 ml conical tubes depending on the isothermolizer purchased. You must follow the directions sent with the shipping device. The amount of liquid (semen in extender) in the box will effect the cooling rate and the manufacturer of the shipper may recommend you need to dilute the dose to 50 ml with more extender. Only the Equitainer has the balast bags you saw previously. Dilution of the semen further to 50 ml will not alter fertility as long as you do not go above a insemination dose of 50 ml.

Disposable shipping containers are not as expensive as an Equitainer but are not as tough and may not hold temperature as well under extreme conditions. They are a good option when shipping routes are not through extreme environments or when you can't make an investment in enough Equitainers to satisfy shipping demands.

Potential semen packaging systems used by different shipping containers.

Example 1- Equitainer Clipper disposable system

The insemination dose is stored in a syringe that is placed in a foam block above a frozen "cold pack". A styrofoam cover is placed over the sample and the cardboard box closed. Different size syringe systems can be ordered.

Example 2 - MiniTub disposable system

The insemination dose is stored in either a 50 ml syring or 50 ml conical tube that is placed in a styrofoam block. The blue frozen "cold packs" are placed in the special slots in the package, next to the insemination doses.
