Semen Processing - Packaging

Below are the directions to package a cooled insemination dose:

Semen is diluted at least 1:3 with extender. The appropriate insemination dose is 1 billion sperm with an estimated motility of of >50%. In this example, the ejaculate parameters are listed below: ejaculate volume: 37 ml concentration: 203 million sperm/ml motility: 85% 5 ml of semen (1015 million sperm) will be diluted with 15 ml of extender for one breeding dose. If the semen was centrifuged, then skip this step.

Most cooled semen has in the past been packaged in Whirlpack bags. The Whirlpack bag is opened by grasping the tabs at the top of the bag and pulling them apart.
