Semen Processing - Cooling and Storage
For a number of years the Equitainer has been the industry standard for cooling and shipping equine semen. There will be an initial description for the Equitainer with other types of containers shown as appropriate.
Coolant cans are placed in a freezer for for at least 24 hr. They must be placed in the correct orientation during freezing as shown in the image. |

Frozen coolant cans are placed in a plastic bag into the Equitainer. The cans should be placed in the correct orientation (opposite of orientation of freezing). Putting the cans in without a plastic bag will make them very difficult to remove! But remember to put the coolant cans at the bottom, below the semen. |
