Mare Reproductive Anatomy - Overview

An overview of the mare reproductive tract is shown below. Starting on the outside of the mare, the first part of the reproductive tract is the vulva which covers the clitoris and is the opening into the vagina. The posterior portion of the vagina is called the vestibule. The vagina then extends to the cervix. The cervix opens up into the uterus which has a uterine body and two uterine horns. The reproductive tract next narrows to form the oviduct which extends up to the ovary.
