Location of the Reproductive Tract in the Mare
Over 1/2 of the reproductive tract is located in the abdominal cavity and the remainder in the pelvic cavity. The vulva, vagina and part of the cervix are located in the pelvic cavity. The remaining portion of the cervix, uterine body, uterine horns, oviducts and ovaries are suspended in the abdominal cavity.The rectum is dorsal (on top of) to the tract and the bladder is ventral (below).
