The follicle shown on the ovary on the left is 22 mm. A pre-ovulatory follicle will reach 40-45 mm diameter. The ovary on the right shows a corpus luteum. Notice that the CL does not protrude above the ovary so it is very difficult to accurately detect a CL with rectal palpation.
