Cleaning & storage of the AV
After you have collected the stallion, you must carefully clean and disinfect the AV to prevent degeneration of the AV or contamination of the next ejaculate collected in the AV. A Missouri AV that is well cared for will last for multiple breeding seasons. When the AV gets "sticky", the layers of the bladder stick together or there is a hole in the bladder, then it is time to purchase a new AV ($250.00-$300.00). The important points to cleaning and storing the Missouri AV are:
- Clean the AV soon after use with warm water and gentle detergent
- Rinse the AV well
- Disinfect with Nolvasan solution or 70% ethanol.
- Rinse well after soaking in Nolavasan.
- Hang AV to dry in a dust-free, non-humid place out of sunlight.
