Breeding Soundness Exam The breeding soundness exam is an essential part in management of the stallion for maximum reproductive efficiency. Every stallion should undergo a breeding soundness exam
The breeding soundness exam can not only reveal if the horse is normal, but also if potential fertility problems are developing. The exam includes both a general physical exam as well as careful evaluation of the reproductive anatomy and ability to function normally. A final examination of the semen is also done if possible. Watch the video on the breeding soundness exam in the stallion. This video demonstrates a general and reproductive exam. The video was of the same stallion whose reproductive tract you have just seen in the proceeding section on stallion anatomy. This stallion was euthanized in June of 2006 due to a twisted intestine.
