Testis

We will begin our discussion of the stallion anatomy by examining the testis and surrounding structures. Specifically we will describe the testis, epididymis, gubernaculum, vas deferens and scrotum. The scrotum is the sac-like structure that allows the testis to descend below the body wall and penis as shown in the diagram. The testis desends into the scrotum either shortly before or within 2 weeks after birth. The scrotum is a sack-like structure that allows the testis to be cooled to a temperature lower than the core body temperature.
