One advantage of AI is that there can be an apparent increase in fertility probably due to better management of the mare. The data below was compiled by the Research Committee of the Arabian Horse Registry of America, Inc., prior to their adoption of AI, from a single, well-managed Standardbred Farm (1972). Normal mares bred with AI have a higher conception and foaling rate than normal mares bred by natural service."Problem mares" had an even larger increase in conception and foaling rates with AI vs natural service although the rates are lower than those in the normal mares.
