Hormone Manipulation: Case 2

It is May 15 and you have just found out the you can breed you Throughbred mare to the Olympic Oldenberg stallion Arko III (2004 Olympics). This is an unbelievable opportunity to make a very valuble sport horse. However, because of his heavy eventing schedule, you can only receive semen during June 5-9. In addition, you can only get fresh semen due to his booking (semen sales) to many mares. You have not been checking your mare's heat. Your vet has had a tragic ultrasounding accident and has broken his collar bone, right ankle and is suffering amnesia. You don't trust anyone else to ultrasound your mare.

You go through the medicine cabinet in the barn and find two different hormones. You vaguely remember that they can be used to manipulate the estrus cycle of the mare. Choose the hormone you think will work and continue to work out the management plan for your mare. Be sure to come back to this page and use the other hormone as well so you understand both approaches.
