So you think the proposed methods will not work. You might not want to give the mare the HCG shot in which case you would need to wait until the follicles get big enough on their own tp ovulate. This would be approximately 3 - 4 days and so breeding with fresh semen would need to be in 2 - 3 days and not tomorrow to ensure semen is in the mare 1 day prior to ovulation. However this is very tricky with expensive semen because it is possible for your mare to take up to 5 days to ovulate and even she might develop an anovulatory follicle. It is our opinion that you should consider the use of HCG as was proposed.
