Management Plan 3: Individual Mares teased with stallion

In this management plan the mares are individually brought to tease with the stallion. You will have a chance to determine if the individual mares are in estrus or not. We will first begin by having you view the movie of Magic and we will explain the various behaviors the mare displays.

Magic:

View video in large resizable format (640X480).

This mare is doing the following:

  • pins her ears back
  • swishes her tail
  • initially not interested in the stallion

Although the mare is not showing estrus behavior, she may be coming into estrus since her diestrus behavior is not strong. Repeated teasing of the mare is required to know how this individual mare behaves throughout the cycle.

View the movies of the remaining mares and answer the associated on-line questions.

Rusty:

View video in large resizable format (640X480).

This mare displays which of the following behaviors in the video? Indicate all that apply.

Choice 1 interested in stallion
Choice 2 lordosis
Choice 3 winking
Choice 4 urinating
Choice 4 ears pinned back
Choice 4 biting at stallion
Choice 4 swishing tail
Choice 4 not interested in stallion

Choice 1 showing estrus behavior
Choice 2 not showing estrus behavior
