Cattle Grazing in Western US Federal Lands

Introduction

Raising beef cattle on western range lands of the US, in particular BLM Federal Grazing lands, requires many changes relative to Wisconsin. You must figure out how you get cattle to Federal grazing lands, where they live the rest of the year, breeding seasons and why, do bulls go with cattle to the summer grazing lands, breeds of cattle and why, stocking rates of cattle, native plants such as tall larkspur, lupine and corn lily impact cattle, how would you interact with an almost 100% hispanic labor population that does not speak any English. Make it sound like a story that leads you to solve a problem.

Assessment Plan

The instructor will be using a standard rubric to evaluate the final products and submission of progress elements as found in the timeline of activities.  Participation in the project will be evaluated from the student evaluation of themselves and others in the group.  Each member receives the same grade for the project except if participation is found to be lacking.  In the event some member does not contribute equally to the overall project (they may do separate parts and that is ok but overall must put in similar effort), then deductions to their grade will be made.  No student however can receive a grade better than what the final products are deemed to be worth by the instructor.
