Podcast Access

  1. Follow the class website to the powerpoint/podcast files for the current year. Starting in 2012 the lectures link in the left hand menu of the class website takes you directly for lecture material in the current year.
  2. The files are listed by lecture. Within a lecture, there is an outline, powerpoint file, a slide handout file as a pdf and a podcast file as a .m4a or in 2013 this was changed to .mp4 file. Due to major changes to Quicktime Player and itunes in early 2013, from 2013 on, you can only view podcasts in Quicktime Player. You will need to download this to your computer from Apple. Versions are available for Mac or PC. You may then be able to view in your browser with the associated quicktime plugin or will have to save to your computer and play directly in quicktime player.
  3. Playing a Podcasts:
  1. You can first just click on the link and see if it plays OK in your browser. If not, download the file desired (right click). I suggest you make a folder for podcasts and download to that folder.
  1. You should be able to identify the file and double click to open in Quicktime but if not, open from Quicktime Player directly.
  1. When Quicktime launches and starts to play, the screen should look like the following:quicktime screen
  1. Note the audio/play controls in the bottom of the screen. You can start stop, view chapters, and even drag the lower right of the screen to increase size if desired.
  1. If the slides do not advance and you only hear sound, you have not downloaded the file and/or you are not playing it in Quicktime Player. We have verified this approach works on Mac OS 10.8.4 and on PC Windows 7 and 8. You must force the file to play through Quicktime Player.
