Introduction

Mexico played a foundational role in the development of contraceptives in terms of the first progestin from a company called Syntex. Develop a case related to how contraceptives were developed from biological sources in Mexico, current implementation in Mexico, types of human contraceptives used, societal impacts of increased contraceptive use, long-term impacts to Mexico and other countries as contraceptive use increases. Make it sound like a story that leads you to solve a problem.

Potential Resources (may change over the semester)

Products:

• Produce a series of webpages or webpages + a podcast that solve the case.  You must think of how to lead your reader/listener on your quest to a solution.
• Produce an audio public service announcement that stresses the importance of oral contraception to Mexican society and the critical role of Mexico in its development. Indicate to the public how Mexican society would be different if the pill was not available.

Assessment Plan

The instructor will be using a standard rubric to evaluate the final products and submission of progress elements as found in the timeline of activities.  Participation in the project will be evaluated from the student evaluation of themselves and others in the group.  Each member receives the same grade for the project except if participation is found to be lacking.  In the event some member does not contribute equally to the overall project (they may do separate parts and that is ok but overall must put in similar effort), then deductions to their grade will be made.  No student however can receive a grade better than what the final products are deemed to be worth by the instructor.
