Dennis R. Buege passed away on Tuesday, October 3.
Dennis was born April 2, 1945 in Juneau, Wisconsin. He received his BS in Meat and Animal Science at the University of Wisconsin in 1969 and his MS in Animal Science at Cornell in 1969. After serving in the Army Veterinary Food Inspection Service, he returned to the University of Wisconsin, completing his PhD in 1975. Dennis was married to Catherine Hughes in 1966. They have two daughters - Elizabeth and Amy.
He worked for two years with Hormel & Company before joining the University of Wisconsin faculty in 1977, serving as Extension Meat Specialist until his retirement in 2005.
During his Extension Service career, Dennis was noted for the network of relationships he forged, enabling the Wisconsin processed meat industry to easily tap his expertise. His research interests focused on processed meat safety, nutrient composition of meat products and reduced fat product formulation and production.
