2007 Meeting of the WI Pork Association Honors Tom Crenshaw

The pork industry is fortunate in having many industry representatives who are dedicated to promoting and serving the industry. The Wisconsin Pork Association honors these individuals and companies by presenting them with the Distinguished Service Industry Honoree Award. The recipient of the award for 2006 is Tom Crenshaw.

Crenshaw has served on the Wisconsin Pork Association liaison and research committees. He has been a strong advocate for the Wisconsin pork industry, and played a key role in rebuilding the Arlington swine facility following the fire that destroyed the original facility. WI DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, TRADE AND CONSUMER PROTECTION SECRETARY, NILSESTUEN, VISITS SPOONER AG RESEARCH STATION

Rob Nilsestuen, secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection visited the Spooner Ag research station to see the Dairy Sheep Operation. Nilsestuen said specialty cheeses in Wisconsin were now rivaling and exceeding those of California. Because of the research and support of the program at Spooner and the infrastructure and interest in Wisconsin, large-scale investors are moving into the state, such as the recent move by Canada’s largest goat cheese producer, Woolwich Dairy, who is making a multi-million dollar investment in Lancaster in southwest Wisconsin. Wisconsin has become the number one sheep milk state and the number two in goat milk.
