  Photos of foaling events

Mare lays down and legs appear. Legs are covered by the amnion. Water has already broken from the allanto-chorion.

Close-up of legs coming out of mare. Note the orientation of the foal from the hooves of the foal.

Foal is out but still covered by amnion. Notice how the mother is looking at foal but has not yet gotten up. Bonding to the foal is important soon after birth.

Close-up of foal.

Students taping the foal to determine weight.

The placenta is delivered intact with no tears. Notice the upper left where the foal came out of placenta. in the lower left is the unbilical chord and the amnion which was directly covering the foal.
