 Purebred Beef Unit

The Purebred Beef unit is located at Arlington and used for teaching and research activities. A cow-calf operation comprises the beef teaching herd used for education on topics related to animal husbandry, reproductive physiology, and showing of livestock. The herd consists of purebred Angus and Polled Herefords that originated from donations of genetics from Wisconsin beef producers. Additional commercial females are maintained at the site for use as recipients for embryos. Offspring from this herd provide show ring experience for undergraduate students with livestock going to World Beef Expo, Wisconsin State Fair, and Denver Livestock Shows. The facility was built in 1963.
